These buildings are some of my favorite pieces of California architecture. These art spaces exemplify the variety of buildings that can work in our diverse environment. It is astonishing that they all exist within the boundaries of a single city: Los Angeles.
Getty Villa
The Getty Villa, one of the campuses of the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, uses neoclassical architecture and formal gardens to immerse the visitor in the classical era of the museum’s collection of Greek, Roman and Etruscan art.
Walt Disney Concert Hall Exterior
Frank Gehry’s design for the Walt Disney Concert Hall is a modern masterpiece. The large, asymmetrical sheets of polished steel resemble sails, or perhaps sheets of music, that catch the light and reflect the city back to itself.

The auditorium’s accoustics, designed by Minoru Nagata, have been lauded around the world. The arena seating puts the players in the middle of the audience, providing excellent views and sound from anywhere in the auditorium.
